Feeling old yet????

With John's help, I decided to switch up my play list this evening... some of which includes oldies from the past. Remember the shows "Different Strokes" and "Silver Spoons" or even the "Mickey Mouse Club"??? Perhaps you'll catch their theme songs playing in the background. I even found the song "Rag Doll" by the Four Seasons. I had this song on eight track, and probably drove my parents wild with it. I mentioned that to John and he declared that he "... wouldn't admit to owning an eight track as a child". I've big shoulders and bet many more of us had eight tracks as children.

Heck, I bet I could still wrangle up some eight tracks at my mom and dad's had I of wanted to.

Funny, that brings me to time capsules. Last October (for those just tuning in) we buried a time capsule in our backyard as part of a 8th birthday party for our son. It will be recovered in the summer of 2017 apon his graduating from highschool. Three years prior we buried one for our daughter which will be recovered in the summer of 2014. For each of them, we compiled a list of the top ten songs from the year they were born. Despite a young age of eight at the time it amazed me how quickly times continue to change.

Subsequently, we headed out to Canadales's yesterday afternoon and picked up 20 strawberry plants to cover over Dalton's time capsule. Over Dakota's is a flowerbed and stature to mark the location. Yet this summer, we will go out and have Dalton pick a statue as a marker for his.

Already in the three and a half years since burying the first one, many school friends have come and gone, moved out of area and relocated. We have taken every precaution in order to re-unite the children when the time comes.

Have you or any one you know ever buried a time capsule??? If so did they ever recover it??? Surprisingly, there is a register dedicated to lost and missing time capsules.

The only person to whom I've ever spoken to, which remembers burying a time capsule doesn't recall where it is or whether it was ever recovered.

Already the few girls who were present in the first burial have asked when it will be recovered. Interesting, I thought they'd of forgotten by now. Because John's grandmother is nearing 80, she wrote each of the children a letter that has remained sealed and UN-BURIED for fear of it being destroyed to which will be presented to them apon recovery of the time capsule. John and I each wrote SEPARATE letters to which the other never read to each of the children.

My father questioned the ethics of doing so, in the event a child passed on or even their parents prior to recovery. I suppose, you never wish that to happen, however since knowing a freind lost her mother at a very young age (15)... I would only guess something like that WOULD HAVE become a very special keepsake.

Do you have anything for which you hold dear???

What happens if you move?? Do you dig them up early? Do you tell the new buyers that you'll be back?

Hi Carol I had a entertainment stereo unit up to a few years ago when we gave it away (it took 8 tracks only, plus radio, plus turntable for records) I think we still may have a few 8 tracks kicking around. And I bought the unit as an adult when in my twenties. Even had little clips you could use in the center of the 45's so you could play those as well as 78"s?
Memories - of Elvis and Ricky nelson , etc. etc. records - still have a few big old records around. Hubhby is a collector of all - wish he would learn how to dust!

See you at the supper tonight!! Hope the food and meeting and gathering etc is good! For $$$ it should be.
