What's better than a party....

EDIT: THIS POST WILL REMAIN AT THE TOP OF MY BLOG FOR THE DURATION OF THE BLOG PARTY (MARCH 20-27). PLEASE SCROLL DOWN FOR NEWER POSTS.

For anyone who's popping by my blog for the first time, WELCOME!!! This blog is brought to you from the snow district of SW Ontario, CANADA. Many of my posts are random thoughts on the daily grinds in life, whether it be crafting (which I don't seem to find enough time for), family and/or the random silly moments that entwine our daily lives.

I'm very much a visual person and enjoy lots and lots of pictures whether they be serious or humorous. I hope to bring joy, laughter and the occasional smile to your face. I read like an open book and encourage comments. If I don't get back to you personally, be assured each and every comment is read and much appreciated.

I have met so many WONDERFUL friends through blogging and enjoy the cultural diversity bloggers tends to share. Each of us comes to bat with different insights and aspirations we care to shed through our online lives.

If you have been "lurking" in the past as a lookie-loo, please feel free to introduce yourself.

HAPPY BLOGGING - MAY THE PARTY NOW BEGIN!!!!

20 "Random Things" about me:

Here goes:
1.I don’t like seafood. It’s for seeing… not consuming in my books.

2.I have never travelled outside North America. I’ve only been out of Canada, twice. Both times were just across the border.

3.One of the first times I was left to babysit my siblings for a couple of hours at about thirteen years of age, I called my parents to inform them that an individual “on foot” had stopped by with A GUN. My dad hurried home, and apprehended the individual. To my embarrassment it wasn’t a gun at all. Rather it was a compact fishing pole.

4. For a headache I need only swallow an aspirin and my headache is gone. I know the aspirin doesn’t work that quickly but it’s one of those strange quirks I have.

5.My first seasonal summer job was at a local conservation authority; working every summer from 1992-1996. As a birthday prank, we intended to gain access to another employee’s apartment (via his roommate). We had intended to lipstick the mirror, Vaseline the doorknobs, so on and so forth. Unfortunately, we were found out and I instead became the victim of “hair assault”. Imagine a near half tub or so of Vaseline wiped through your hair. The next week I had to attend “Frosh Week” for my preliminary year of University. Imagine my embarrassment having to call hairdressers as remedial action in fixing my disgustingly greasy hair. Best solution…. Dish soap. It cuts through grease every time. It took massive washings and the results were probably the slowest I’d ever seen. Advice: Vaseline DOES NOT make good hair gel.

6. Curiosity is in my nature. I love to ask store clerks, patrons, waitress’s etc about ANYTHING. This could be anything from a unique hair colour or style, body decoration (ie. tattoos or piercings, etc.) and even hobbies. It’s not uncommon of me to ask someone how long it took them to do a particular hairstyle they’re sporting, etc. Of recent, I’ve discovered a clerk at the dollar store wears hairpieces to explain her ridiculous hair styles, or that corn rolls (or dreadlocks) can take longer than a year to establish properly, etc. I’d even watched a lady at the pioneer village for upwards of 10 minutes perform what I now suspect to be locker hooking while I asked a kazillion questions. People like to be recognized for their individuality and this is one thing people LOVE to talk about.

Do you ever inquire into these things???

7. I presumed I was drowning once in water I could touch bottom in. To explain, I took swimming lessons for years at the outdoor pool in Aylmer. There was a painted line in the pool that declared the "DEEP END"... 6 feet. The instructor guided us to jump in on the "deeper side" of the line. I immediately followed direction and FREAKED OUT apon entering the water. "Help, help, I'm drowning and can't swim". My mother was motified. "Put your feet down", the instructor kept telling me. Crazy, yes, nuts I wasn't. The instructor had to jump in after me. She held me in place and had me put my feet down. I COULD TOUCH... with my head above water. The line was drawn prematurely to advise of "deepening water". I haven't gotten pass this and still wear water rings in the bath tub (HEHEHE).... kidding of course.

8. My first birthday spent with my husband when we were dating was spent eating at Taco Bell. I'd never been and not wanting to break HIS bank, I opted to go somewhere cheap. Only later did he confide in me he had saved to take me anywhere I had wanted to go.

9. In grade eight we were to do public speaking and write a speech on our choice of topic. When the deadline came to hand in our topic, I still didn't know what I wanted to write about. The teacher told me that time had ran out, and suggested I quickly grab an excyclopedia and to what ever topic it opened to, would be the topic of my speech. My utter disbelief.... I had chosen to speak about ACNE. Uggggh.

10. I always LOVED to pull pranks on my two younger siblings. Once for valentines day, I removed all the valentines from my sisters backpack the evening before she was to distribute them, put lipstick on and kissed the backs of all the boys valentines. Boy did she ever get razed for that.

11. A girlfriend and I used to go bar hopping in Turkey Point Thursday, Friday and Saturday night's when we were in University. One evening, too loaded to go home we decided to crash in the vehicle on the beach when we noticed a bunch of skinny dippers in the water. A s--t disturber that I can be, I slithered myself along the darkened beach on my stomach and stole some of the clothing to hide under my car. It was soooo funny to watch the excapades unfold when they discovered their clothes was missing.

YOU DIDN'T REALLY FALL FOR THAT, DID YOU?!?

12. I apparently have a look-alike who lives in the same town to which I reside now. Even good family friends couldn't tell the difference between us many times in the past. I have since discovered the girls name, where she has worked in the past, where she currently works, her sisters name, etc... all through mistaken identity conversations. A friends husband has so much as tried to locate the girl on Facebook with no luck. I've often wondered what she would do if I found her number and rang her up.

13. Lastly, I couldn't remember the words to a song if you paid me. My kids and husband on the other hand can hear something once, and repeat it word for word the next time they hear it.

14. I am directionally illiterate. I know in theory if I've turned right to get to where I'm going, that I will need to turn left upon my return, but I can never remember at which left I need to turn. Duh????

15. I believe this should be invented... a detachable garage on wheels. Because I hate to shovel snow and my garage is at the further point on my property from the road, it should be on a track so I may push it forward in the winter and push it back in the summer. This way I merely need to turn off the road and I'm in my garage. I may be blonde, but the wheels are always turning.

16. My nickname in High School was Chicken. Because I got called to the office one day during science period (for no known reason), apon my return a fellow student asked whether I had to take a call regarding my chicken coop getting raided into. Where that came from I will NEVER know. Subsequently another student in the class started calling me chicken and it stuck my entire High School career. Funny, I was at a friend's wedding and a classmate of mine was there and couldn't think of my proper name in order to introduce me to her husband. Good grief!!!

17. I've always wanted to work for the circus. I admire the trapeze artists, however I would best be used as a clown on a unicycle or stilts. In an attempt to find a unicycle I went on freecycle, and was actually gifted with a skatebike. Much like a cross between a unicycle and a skateboard it's a riot to see the look on the neighbours faces every time I pull it out in the parking lot across from my home.

similar to mine.

18. I know I've never dreamt of frogs. Once at a keg party while in University my friend and I were making conversation with a few of the guests when we happened to mention what we'd found in a dream book. If you've ever dreamt of frogs (according to the book)... your gay. Well, that began a whole other ball of wax. "Did you know, 10% of the population is gay?"..."You ought to ask 10 random people and see if that theory is true", we were told
Feeling little pain, we proceeded to ask NINE random people. NO LUCK. That's when we spotted him, straight from a "Will and Grace", episode the quirky guy wearing a polka dot shirt. When my friend and I proceeded to ask this tenth individual whether he'd ever dreamt of frogs, he proceeded to respond... "Why yes I have...". I couldn't bear it any longer, I think I nearly pee'd my pants.

19. When I was in University my friend and I would party under alias names. She was Kelly (from married with children) and I was Erica. We still tease about that to this day.

20. I was attacked by a rooster, bit by a duck and tossed from a cow. Because my dad wouldn't buy me a horse and because we lived on a hobby farm, I was often told if I wanted a horse I could ride the cow. How do you get a stubborn cow to move, you ask? Sit on it backwards and twist it's tail of course.

The moral, you never know what's up ahead if your not looking forward.

With all the cool prizes to be won at this years UBP, my top three picks are:
USC 40
USC 26
USC72
Others in no particular order would be... USC80, USC78, US77, USC72, USC58, USC14, USC17, USC7, INTL1, INTL37, INTL55, any blog design makeovers, jewellery, or amazon gift cards

Thanks for stopping by to party with me! I'm bringing you some of that cheesecake : ) We're not quite neighbors, so it was a little bit of a snowy journey to get here, being that I'm on the cold, cold, COLD prairies. I loved the conversation about the underwear. Made me giggle! Hope you are having a great time partying!

Hello =) Great party you have here. I love blogging for exactly the reason you listed. In fact blogging has taught me there are a LOT of great ways to do things and am not nearly closed minded as I was before (which I didn't mean to be anyway but well, I was!)

Oh that calculator you posted about too... *giggles* I must remember to show that one to my boyfriend! ;-)

You said that you like pictures, I have some posted in today's entry you may like. I do a "Photographic Wednesday" every week. I try to only post artsy, well composed photos but sometimes it's the every-day not thought out snapshots that I like the best. :)

It's been great "meeting" you! Happy partying!
